The RRSP dollar limit for the 2026 tax year is $33,810, an increase of $1,320 on the 2025 figure of $32,490.

The TFSA annual contribution limit is $7,000 for 2026, unchanged from 2025 and 2024.

RRSP

The dollar limit caps an individual’s deduction room, which is otherwise 18% of the previous year’s earned income less any pension adjustment. The ceiling therefore binds only for those who earned roughly $187,800 or more in 2025.

The RRSP limit is indexed to average wage growth and moves in most years. The contribution deadline for the 2026 tax year is 1 March 2027.

TFSA

The TFSA limit is indexed to inflation and rounded to the nearest $500, which produces movement in steps rather than annually. Three consecutive years at $7,000 reflects that rounding.

Cumulative contribution room for an individual eligible since the account’s introduction in 2009 now stands at $109,000.

Room accrues from the year an individual turns 18, subject to Canadian residency, whether or not an account has been opened. Withdrawn amounts are restored to contribution room on 1 January of the year following the withdrawal, not immediately. Over-contributions attract a penalty of 1% per month on the excess.
